Dent Instruments offers a wide range of sensors for measuring AC electrical current. These AC current sensors are designed for use with portable measuring equipment, such as the Dent Instruments ElitePro XC energy data logger. They typically feature the industry-standard 333 mV output for their rated current. For example, a 100-amp current transformer (CT) would output 333 mV AC when 100 amps AC is flowing through the cable it is clamped around.
To ensure safety, a burden resistor is built into the current transformer, keeping the output voltage at a non-lethal level. This design contrasts with traditional 0-5 amp current transformers used in metering applications. Dent Instruments is known for manufacturing high-quality current sensors. Their products feature premium-grade ferrite or laminated iron cores, paired with robust, well-designed casings. These sensors offer exceptional accuracy, exceeding 1%, with most achieving 0.6% or better. When comparing CTs, the quality and precision of Dent Instruments' sensors are worth considering.
