A range of sensors for measuring AC electrical current is offered by Dent Instruments. AC Current sensors that are used with portable measuring equipment such as the Dent Instruments ElitePro XC energy data logger usually have the industry standard 333 mV output for the rated current. So a 100 amp CT would normally output 333mV AC when 100 amps AC is flowing through the cable it is clamped around.
A burden resistor is built into the current transformer to ensure the output voltage is always at a non lethal voltage. This is quite different to 0-5 amp current transformers used for metering applications. You can read more here about metering current transformers. Note the safety aspect further down the page.
**A note about the Dent Instruments current sensors**
Dent Instruments manufacture a very good quality sensor. They use premium quality ferrite core or laminated iron cores and the cases are just as good. Their current sensors are better than 1% accuracy and typically 0.6% or better. Please consider this when comparing CTs and CTs. :)
We only have a small selection of the available current sensors listed here. So please call us if you are looking for something a little different.
